A leader asked me recently how I help people escape the Golden Path Fallacy.

The people I’m thinking of are successful.

They’ve hit every wicket, taken the next job and the next promotion, most of it on good advice from people who meant well.

And then one day they look up and something feels a little off.

That doesn’t mean they’re on the wrong path.

Sometimes you take an honest look and realize it still fits who you are, and you stay, with way more fulfillment than before.

Sometimes it doesn’t fit, and it’s time for a change.

Either way, it becomes a choice.

It’s the kind of conversation I find myself having often with leaders shifting from one arena to the next.
